Matt's report on the opening Club Champs of the 2010/2011 season.
Kingston AC & Polytechnic Harriers
Club Championships & Inter Club 5 mile
Richmond Park – 02.10.2010 - REPORT
On a slightly rainy afternoon yesterday 35 runners contested the annual club 5 mile race at Sheen Gate in Richmond Park. It was an impressive turnout, notable for a large number of Thames HH runners.
Once again Andy Arbour was the first K&P runner to cross the finish line, running well to overtake George Corcoran, Craig Price and Matt Hyett in the last mile or so of the race. Andy retained the Bert Long Trophy, George and Craig taking Silver and Bronze respectively.
The next runners in were Matt Hyett and Mike Maranzano, Mike showing promise that he is recovering from some recent injuries. There wasn't much difference between Peter Wilkins and Steve Wright who were the next K&P finishers, both producing encouraging runs. Good to see Ant follow closely after, who seems to be beginning to recover after injuries over the summer and who retained the George Harrup Vets trophy.
Maddy Hardwick was the first K&P lady to finish and ran very well; she was followed by Richard Holt, Nicky Atkins and Lana Whatley. Completing the K&P team were David Gibbons, David Barrington and Cashel Riordan, David B claiming silver in the Vets competition and David G bronze.
All in all a good afternoon- well done all. Thanks to all who attended, and many thanks to the Marshalls for their support and thanks to the flagging team.
Next up is the Men's 1st Surrey League match at Lloyd Park, Croydon, on 9th October, 3pm start for the senior race- would be good to see you there if you can make it.
